My Story
My story dates back four decades ago to the days when I was a mere toddler of three or four when my maternal grandmother used to read all of the popular Fairy Tales to me. This included Snow White, Cinderella , Red Riding Hood and the like. I would listen spellbound until she got tired and needed a rest. When I turned five my maternal grandfather taught me to read using phonics. So I began reading by myself at the tender age of five.
I grew up in a beautiful town which is known as the "Land of the Singing Fish" and is located in the east coast of a Island which is known as "The Pearl of the Indian Ocean." By the age of six or seven I started reading Enid Blyton books. My Dad would faithfully take to the local Public Library every Sunday. Back in the day the library loaned two books for two weeks. However because of my thirst for reading I would finish the books within a couple of days and would request my Dad to take me to library so I could borrow more books.
My parents also took me to second hand books shops where I could buy books of my choice. I also used to write poetry and short stories to the local newspapers. One of my favourite columns to write for was the Young Islanders Club. Back in those days there were no internet or any other technological advancements where I grew up. This meant we had to wait for the hard copy newspaper to arrive at the local grocery store. My Dad would purchase the newspaper and snip out my contribution to the column so that it could be retained for the future.
Fast forward forty years I am the proud mum of two gorgeous girls who also enjoy writing stories.
Happy Reading!!!
